I Will Always Love You

Mrs. Dews was sick last week, leaving Mrs. Wheeler on her own, so we did not post out video response to We Are the World. Instead, the sign club played games. This Tuesday, May 4th, we will finally post our video response. Again, anyone who did not return a permission form to be videotaped will be our audience.

The sign club performed at the school's Earth Day assembly on Thursday. We used it as our dress rehearsal for the end of year show for parents, which will be at 1:15 on Thursday, May 27th in the gym. This Tuesday, we will record our video response to the We Are the World YouTube video. Students who did not return a permission slip allowing them to participate in the video response will act as our audience.

Hello, parents and sign club members. We haven't posted anything in quite a while. We have an end of year performance planned just for our families in the gym from 1:15 to 2pm on Thursday, May 27. We hope you will come and see the songs students have been working on. See you then!

Mrs. Wheeler taught the students some ocean animal signs and then they played an ocean animal Bingo game. Afterward, students learned more signs for the song We Are the World and then practiced to the music. Next week, a permission slip will be going home, asking your permission to allow your child to be videotaped. We found an interesting opportunity as we watched the youtube video of the song. Near the end, it invites viewers to upload a video response to the song. We thought it would be cool to upload a video of our sign club signing to the song.

Over the last two weeks, students have learned 110 school signs, signs that might be useful at school. They should have brought the sheet home which had pictures of each sign so they can practice. We will start learning the song We Are the World next week. Happy Valentine's Day!

Last week students learned signs to go along with the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear. We reviewed those signs today. We played Last Person Standing, a game in which students compete head to head to be the first to say the sentence that is signed. The winner for the kindergarten through 3rd grade group was Emily T. The winner of the 4th -6th grade group was Hunter. Great job, everyone!

Last week both groups started learning signs for a song they will perform for the Spring concert. The song is We Are the World. We will post a how-to-video soon. New sign language links have been added, so please check them out.

Students watched a recording of their Christmas program. If you would like a copy of the program, please speak with Mrs. Dews (281-6219) and she will burn a copy of the DVD for you. Depending on the number of requests, you might be required to supply your own blank DVD.
