New Sign Language Blog

Hello, Rose Park friends! I may not be teaching in Montana anymore, but I'm still teaching sign language--on the web. If you're still interested in learning sign language, check out my new blog at http://signlanguageschool.blogspot.com/ or my YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/44andstrong. Let me hear from you!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the devoted students and parents who were a part of sign club this school year. It has been lots of fun and Mrs. Hanson and I hope to see you all next year.

We got lots of sad "Aahhs" when we announced that we only have one more sign club meeting. I encouraged students to join us again next year. We've had a good time.

Last Day of Sign Club

Sadly, we will be closing Sign Club for the remainder of the year as of March. Our last day for Sign Club will the Monday, February 27th. We will not have Sign Club on February 20th due to the holiday, so we only have 2 meetings left for this school year. Mrs. Hanson and Mrs. Dews dearly appreciate the support of parents and the participation of students in this fun program.

They asked for it -- they got it. Yes, we had another scavenger hunt today. This one was vastly more difficult than the first one. Students worked very well together to read fingerspelled directions such as, "Go to Ms. Murdoch's room and type 'I like pizza.' Bring your typed message to the checker." The clues led them to many different areas of the building and had students meeting new teachers. Parker's grandma was nice enough to be our "checker" again. She even brought treats for the students.

We played the game I Have/Who Has using signs for animals that we learned last week. The students did a great job! At the end of the game, I asked students to give me some feedback about the activities they want to do at sign club. The scavenger hunt was a huge hit, so I'll revamp it to make it a little more challenging and we'll do that again. I was feeling bad about not teaching them any songs recently and apparently it wasn't an issue.

We played games today -- no songs at all. I taught 25 new animal signs and then gave each student an animal card. We went around the circle with the first person showing their animal sign. The second person had to do the 1st person's sign plus their own. The 3rd person had to do the 2 previous signs plus their own and so on. I was so impressed with how well students remembered all the signs. We also played "telephone" but with sign language. We tried to play Mother May I? but it didn't work out very well. At least students learned lots of animal signs and had a good time. We will not have sign club next week since students don't have school that day.

Welcome!
